Realise yours…

I had the most amazing couple of days last week as one of the judges for the British Council’s ‘Realise your Dream’ competition. The competition gives 6 young (21-28 yrs old) ‘creatives’ a chance to go to the UK to spend time being mentored by someone there at the top of their chosen field. It’d be such an amazing opportunity for anyone let alone these highly driven and successful applicants. When I say ’successful’, honestly, I was just blown away by how much the people we interviewed had already achieved and truly felt honoured to be playing a minor part in perhaps the next Jane Campion’s or Marc Newson’s career. I really did feel like the people we saw were going to go on to be the future cultural leaders of Australia. The competition is held annually, so if you would qualify or know of someone who would, start thinking about it now for next year… All info is on the ‘Realise your Dream’ website, for this year at least, but I’m sure it’ll be much the same for next.

I’d also love to develop a number of Dumbo feather scholarships at some point with the goal of giving recipients the courage to fly… Not quite in a position to do so quite yet, but just putting it out there for now.

dumbo scholarships are a great idea to aspire to …. it would be lovely if they were also open to “not so young” creatives…. dumbo has shown us there are lots of people out there who are pursuing creative stuff a little later in life…
as always - thanks for the lovely mook. x

Thanks Catherine, they’ll have absolutely no age restrictions that’s for sure! Have been doing a bit more thinking about what Dumbo feather has to offer, and it one thing is the amazing flock of people we’ve profiled over the past 12, nearly 13, issues… Many, many of them would make great mentors.

Would love to hear other people’s thoughts…
