Harrell Fletcher's Interviews with Children

Interview between Irma and her five-year-old son Max

Max-irma

Irma: What’s it like being a big brother?

Max: It’s like, when you’re a big brother you’re really old and you take really good care, that’s what I think.

I: How do you take good care of your brother?

M: Well sometimes I do nice little cute dances like this (dances and sings in front of baby brother). So that’s a part of being a big brother because he did a cheeky smile.

I: What would you like to do when you grow up?

M: I would like to poo! (laughs cheekily) I would like to poo when I grow up (laughs again).

I: What else would you like to do?

M: Poo. Poo, that’s what I want to do.

I: Anything else?

M: No!

I: Why is poo funny?

M: Because.

I: Because what?

M: Because it’s yucky and stinky.

I: What job would you like to do when you’re grown up?

M: Sorting out poo. And that’s all. I’ve had enough of questions.
