Interview between Elizabeth and her six-year-old daughter Pearl
Elizabeth: Pearl, I want to do an interview with you.
Pearl: Not right now, I’m busy. I wanted to make a fake store.
E: What are you going to sell?
P: Butterfly cookies and stuff.
E: What are butterfly cookies?
P: Either with butterfly candies, or frosting. Not made of butterflies. And I’m gonna sell pictures of butterflies. And butterflies smashed between glass.
E: How do you do that?
P: You find a dead butterfly, and you get some glass and some pretty coloured paper, and you rest the butterfly on the paper and make it look like it’s flying, and you smash the glass over the butterfly, and you glue it together with really sticky glue. And then you’re done.
E: Have you ever seen a dead butterfly?
P: No, but I’ve seen flowers smashed between glass. A butterfly would be pretty. Are you writing that down?!
E: Yes, I’m writing it down. What do you think happens to a butterfly after it dies?
P: Well, I know about Monarchs. They travel to Mexico, and then they lay their eggs, and then they die.
E: And then what happens?
P: I don’t know! Bugs come and eat them. Then, I do not know what happens! Actually I think maybe their skin comes off, and then all you see is butterfly bones. The end!
