Loose threads

Loose threads

One of our subscribers, a Melbourne-based interior designer called Sally, has come up with the concept for a community project called ‘Loose Threads’. The idea is to get people from a small, rural community (Willaura – where she’s originally from) together to make a whole lot of things to refurbish a communal space. Sally’s having a workshop day on the 18th of August where professional sewers, embroiderers, knitters and patchworkers will share their skills. She also needs your help…
Sally hopes, “the community achieves the sense of satisfaction that I always feel when I create things and feel more connected and happy. I hope also that this will encourage people to put down the remote control and pick up a needle and thread!”
We’re all for it and thought some of you might be able to raid your cupboards.
Sally’s wishlist goes something like this:

  • a coffee machine and coffee beans or a projector or a “what have you” for film nights
  • oh and some great arthouse films
  • maybe some floor lamps
  • any wool or knitting needles
  • or threads
  • some large lampshades that we could knit shades onto
  • any beans for beanbags
  • and of course any funky old armchairs or little coffee tables.

If you can help, please drop Sally a line at richo(dot)sally(at)gmail(dot)com

This sounds very Freecycle to me. Have you checked out the Freecycle concept. Or LETS, the Local Energy (Exchange) Trading System. I am on the NSW Central Coast and there is in an incredibly active LETS group here trading all kinds of things (my lemon tree and I are making friends all over the place and I even made enough trades to “purchase” an electronic juicer with the system’s money, called Shells. Freecycle is a matter of just calling out for what you want, or what you have to offer and people connect to you. I have found back packs for my Girl Guide unit and handed on an unused laundry tub. It’s about making the world a better place one gift at a time. One man’s trash truly is another’s treasure.

Nothing seems to be easier than seeing someone whom you can help but not helping.
I suggest we start giving it a try. Give love to the ones that need it.
    God will appreciate it.
