Hi, we’re Dumbo Feather, and you’re our new Development Manager. It’s great to meet you. We are an iconic Australian magazine. Published quarterly for seven years, and distributed globally to newsagents, retailers, cafes, boutiques, and a strong subscriber base, we are hailed around the world as a design leader, and as a magazine like no other.
At the end of last year, we found a new home in Melbourne. With a new publisher, a new editorial team and a bold new vision for the future, we’ve been rather busy. We now live in the second oldest building in St Kilda, where we show up to work every day with the intention of eating great sushi and pushing the boundaries of the publishing industry. After eight months and two beautiful issues, we’ve realised something’s missing: you.
We need a Development Manager who can take the beautiful magazines and digital things we make and get them into more hands than we’re able to on our own. You have significant experience in circulation and distribution, subscriber and customer relations, advertising and sponsorship, events and community relations, marketing, PR and social media. That’s a long list, but you’re a rare person. You’re strong enough in all of these areas to show real leadership, to push us in directions we never expected, and to never mind picking up the phone and helping out a subscriber with a magazine in a soggy envelope. You know how to roll up your sleeves and get things done.
We’re a Small Giant, and we’re glad you know what that means. You understand publishing and marketing, but you don’t like playing by the same rules as everybody else. We’re here to do things differently, and to show others how they can be done. You’re here to show us that too. You value the authentic experience, and you understand the joy and play that makes something like Dumbo Feather special. This is a full-time position, salary is negotiable.
