Theo Jansen is an inventor whose creations inspire bursts of hyperbole from adults and children alike. (Not to be hyperbolic about it.)
His Strandbeest project is truly a sight to behold – some of his wind-walking kinetic creatures came to life at Melbourne’s Federation Square a while ago. We adored his TED demonstration, and needless to say, jumped at the chance to talk to Theo from his home in the Netherlands. Throughout the phone conversation, we couldn’t help but be enthralled by his vision and more importantly, his obvious affection for his plastic menagerie.
